Definitive Living Statues
Admiral Lord Nelson was the first living statue that Ant E Statik supplied, Charlie Chaplin has joined him. Admiral Lord Nelson is the definitive Lord Nelson living statue, Charlie's living statue is the same. Nelson's living statue matches a stunningly accurate costume with a the cleverly subtle gimmick. Charlie's living statue is as much a pioneer as it's subject.
Nelson is one of the funniest human statues you’re ever likely to see and one of the most convincing too. He’s sure to brighten up any event. Just watch him reduce audience to tears of laughter without deviating from the classic Lord Nelson pose. Charlie, of course, is a clown, who'll surprise even the most wary audience.
Charlie's suit was made to order using measurements taken from photographs. Even his long shoes were reproduced and the whole suit was covered in a special coating to reproduce the effect of a cast iron statue. No highlights have been painted on... the suit and makeup are shiny enough to catch the light naturally. The effect is fabulous!
It was a colleague in the living statue business that called Ant a "Living Statue Pioneer", he has a natural talent for creating original and highly entertaining performances. Ant E Statik will spend months, even years, creating a costume; he is a perfectionist and it shows. Because he spends so much time perfecting his costumes he develops a special, almost spiritual, relationship with the subject. He is currently working on his next statue costume.
In November 2008 Ant E Statik performed as Nelson in The Painted Hall at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. Nelson laid in state there after The Battle of Trafalgar. The event was for the foreign office with three hundred delegates from all over the world, all of whom queued up patiently to have their photographs taken with him
Norwich museum has a section dedicated to Nelson. It houses. among other relics, a bust of the Nelson and his bicorn hat. Ant carries an images of Nelsons and Charlie around with him on his mobile phone to help him get his make up just right.
